Free Credit Report Gov
Contrary to what many people think, the federal government doesn’t maintain or manages the credit reports. It is a private business that’s regulated by the government. This means the your credit reports are not generated by the government. They are only mandated by it.
The ONLY place to get your free credit report gov is via the Annual Credit Report Request Service. This service was set up by the three major credit bureaus especially for this purpose, and is regulated by the government.
Although each of the credit bureaus keeps a web site where it provides credit reports, DO NOT try to get your reports there. If you do – you’ll be asked to provide your credit card details, and you’ll be charged for these reports.
Another thing – avoid goggling “free credit reports” or similar search terms. Most chances that you will end with one of many imposter sites that either try to steal information from you, or charge you a fee for a service that’s free by law!
The only “Legit” site, and the only one regulated by the federal government is the Annual Credit Report Request Service (www.annualcreditreport.com)
The Annual Credit Report Request Service provides you with three options to obtain your free government credit report: Online, over the phone (toll free) or by mail.
Choosing the online option enables you to view, download and save your 3 major credit report instantly.
You also have the option to order your free credit report from just one, two or all three credit bureaus (the later is also known as a 3-in-1 credit report).
