Vantage Credit Score Conversion

Vantage Credit Score ConversionAlthough Vantage credit score conversion to FICO is possible, it is far from accurate. Even though Vantage & FICO credit scores are quite similar, they use different formulas and weigh things differently. Thus, converting between Vantage & FICO shouldn’t be used for accuracy or any other practical purpose.

That having said, the two most common ways for Vantage credit score conversion are range conversion and direct linear conversion.

Range Conversion

This method involves determining the range your Vantage credit score falls into, and then translating that range to the appropriate Fico range.

For example, a 750 Vantage score falls within the ‘Prime’ range, which corresponds to the Average/Low Fico range, i.e. 580-680.

This method has 2 drawbacks:

  • Vantages credit score has 5 risk categories, while Fico has 6.
  • Vantage credit score categories are distributed evenly across the scale, while Fico scores categories are not.

Direct Linear Conversion

This method uses the following formulas for Vantage to FICO Conversion and vise versa:

  • Vantagescore = (FICO – 300) * 0.89 + 501
  • FICO = (Vantagescore – 501) * 1.12 + 300

For example, 814 Vantage converts to a 650 Fico using: (814 – 501) x 1.12 + 300 = 650. Similarly, 861 Fico converts to 840 Vantage using: (681 – 300) * 0.89 + 501 = 840.
While linear conversion may look very accurate at first glance, it doesn’t account for the differences in how each score weighed various factors. Thus, more often than not the resulting Fico score is likely to be different from your ACTUAL Fico score.

Bottom Line

Vantage Credit Score Conversion to Fico or vise versa is not like converting Fahrenheit to Celsius. These credit scores use different models, apply different weights and are distributed differently. Try the conversion for kicks, but not accuracy or any practical purpose.
